Into The Sunset

Into The sunset

by Michael Macfadden

About This Piece:

This piece takes inspiration from a number of sources including: “neon sunrise” desktop wallpapers (Google it), desert landscape and vanishing point photography, the movie Tron, and landscape tutorials from the likes of Thomas Brush.

I designed this piece in Photoshop using the polygonal lasso tool to shape the foreground and midground elements. Selecting a color pallet of yellows, oranges, pinks, purples, and blues, I assigned color values accordingly, leveraged blend mode techniques, glow effections, and gradient overlays.

The figure in the road is referenced from a photo on one of my favorite open source stock photo sites: unsplash.com. The finishing touch on this piece involves tweaking settings in the camera raw photo editor to really make the color pop.
